The Markson Pianos Jazz Night at the Spice of Life: Elchin Shirinov & Alex Munks’ ‘Flying Machines’

Publish Date: 21 June 2016

13th July
doors open from 6pm for food
music from 8-11pm

For our latest Jazz night we present internationally acclaimed Azerbaijani pianist ELCHIN SHIRINOV who brings his unique approach to ethno-jazz. Shirinov – who comes from the Azerbaijani folk tradition – belongs to the new generation of Azerbaijani jazz musicians who combine elements of post-bop jazz, blues and funk with the modes, melodies and microtones of Azerbaijani folk and classical music.

Our opening set will be from up and coming guitarist ALEX MUNK’S ‘FLYING MACHINES’ which fuses visceral, rock-out guitar improv with anthemic melodies and lusciously textured soundscapes. It’s a sound shot through with the here and now of London’s cutting-edge music scene.
