The pianist, composer, musical director and composer John Bailey is set to perform as part of our Markson Pianos 2017 Concert Series on Wednesday 26th July at 7pm. John completed a postgraduate masters degree in jazz performance at Guildhall School of Music, where he trained as a jazz pianist, and has also completed fellowship diploma (FRSM) in classical piano performance, when he specialised in the work of Ravel. The performance will include Chopin’s Scherzo No. 4 in E major Op. 54, Albeniz’s El Puerto (from ‘Iberia’ Book 1), Bogdanović’s Memorabilia and Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit. Tickets for the performance are £8 on the door or pre-booked, and £4 concessions.
In 2009, John Bailey released the album Silent Compositions. The pieces were originally commissioned as a musical contemplation for Colin Wilson’s photographic exhibition of the same name, with the work first being performed in 2007 at the Derby Museum & Art Gallery. The album is currently available on Bandcamp.

The History of our Concert Series
The Markson Concert Series was first launched in 2010, when Concert Grands and various musical events were showcased at London’s St Mary Magdalene Church. The musical events forming the series have included dance, contemporary music, poetry and classic and jazz recitals.
The Church of St Mary Magdalene is located in Munster Square, Camden Town. The church was designed by RC Carpenter. It has been branded as the ‘most artistically correct new church in London’ and was completed in 1852. Alterations were made in the mid-to-late 19th century, including a new crypt and north isle. The church is built from ragstone and features Welsh slate roofs and Baltic fir collar-braced trusses, with frescoes and marbles helping form the elegant interior.
