In this months Keys To Life interview we talk to the extraordinary Baby Sol, the singer songwriter making waves in the UK live music scene, who is also renowned for being backing singer to some of the UK’s biggest names in music, such as Paloma Faith and Laura Mvula, to name a few.

Baby, good day to you;

What do you strive for in life?

To be happy.

How does singing make you feel?

Joyful.

As a solo artist, songwriter and featured singer on multiple cross genre projects, as well as being backing singer to multiple major label artists, where you travel the globe on tour, how do you balance your time between them all?

Co-ordinating dates can be difficult as sometimes you have to decide on what NOT to do even as you wish to do it ALL.

What artists and bands have inspired you and why?

Eartha Kitt and Grace Jones for performance, Sarah Vaughan and Nina Simone for vocal prowess and dexterity, Tina Turner for EVERYTHING! Earth Wind and Fire and Sly & the Family Stone. Prince…. Skunk Anansie, No Doubt, I could go on.

When you get home and you want to unwind, what kind of music do you usually listen too and why?

Jazz or conscious hip hop like De La Soul or Common that kind of thing.

What do you do to get rid of stress?

Sleep and eat mostly. I also love a bit of comedy.

What book/s are you currently reading and tell me one thing that you enjoy about it?

“Why Had Nobody Told Me This Before” by Dr Julie Smith because it’s an explanation of therapy methods that work for all in everyday life, correct skill vibes.

What is the number one kind of music that even a straitjacket wouldn’t hold you back from dancing too?

Anything with a beat!

What is one of your favorite places to eat, drink and unwind with friends in London and why?

Balans Soho as it is open 24hrs but I love a roast so anywhere that serves a good roast and a Bloody Mary.

What song or piece of music always lifts you up?

Let Me Fall by Laura Mvula or an amapiano song called Fetch Your Life by Msaki /Prince Kaybee.

Baby, thank you for sharing some of  your Keys to Life.
