A bit on John Broadwood Pianos
Originally established in 1728, John Broadwood and Sons are considered to be the oldest-surviving piano manufacturer in the World and practically invented the upright piano as we know it today. During it’s long history, it has been the preferred choice by many eminent players and composers including Beethoven, Elgar and Vaughan Williams. It has also consistently held the Royal Warrant.
The firm were pioneers in the development of the instrument including the ‘barless’ system in which the usual cast-iron bracings are replaced by a surrounding frame of mild steel, which does not interfere with the stringing. (See this particular listed piano!)
